'Days of Caring & Sharing' - Martine Kaplan

This article, by Martine Kaplan, is from the Jewish Community Center Association ‘Days of Caring & Sharing’ project. Martine was one of several participants to write about her experiences as part of the project, which involved JCCA board members and executive directors in January, 2007. The group witnessed some of the destruction still present in New Orleans 16 months after the storm, visited the badly damaged Beth Israel synagogue, and cleaned a YWCA building ruined by Hurricane Katrina.

My Katrina Story

Attached please find a speech I gave to some members of the CCAR who came to visit last April. My husband and I finally moved into a newly renovated townhouse in Metairie at the end of September. We plan to sell our lot and look for a new house sometime this year. Now that I have decorated this townhouse, there is still much to do, for example, go through all of the things from the house that we were able to save which are still in boxes.
