This photograph from the Columbia/Barnard Hillel Alternative Winter Break trip to help rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina was taken by Columbia and Jewish Theological Seminary student Jessica Fischer. Hillel students and staff members spent the week of January 7-14, 2007 in Kiln, Mississippi, and in New Orleans’ St. Bernard Parish, cleaning and gutting homes and repairing roofs damaged by the storm. This is a photograph of a calendar open to August, 2005, that students saw in a hardware store near where they were staying in Mississippi.
