This is a picture of Hillel students removing shingles from a roof damaged by Hurricane Katrina in order to build a new roof in its place. These students were part of a group of hundreds of college students from Hillels across the country that spent their winter or spring breaks in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi, repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The students learned basic construction and roofing skills. By the end of the week, this house at 291 Kuhn street had a brand new roof.
