laying shingles 11
This is a picture of Hillel students putting down shingles to replace a roof damaged by Hurricane Katrina. These students were part of a group of hundreds of college students from Hillels across the country that spent their winter or spring breaks in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi, repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The students learned basic construction and roofing skills. By the end of the week, this house at 291 Kuhn street had a brand new roof. This photograph was taken by Dorie Ain, a staff member at the University of North Carolina Hillel, on March 16th, 2006.
