putting up a wall

This is a picture of Hillel students putting up an outside wall of a house that they were building from the ground up in Gulfport, Mississippi. These students were part of a group of hundreds of college students from Hillels across the country that spent their winter or spring breaks in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi, repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The students learned basic construction and roofing skills. By the end of the week, the exterior of this house, which would house three generations of family members, was finished. This picture was taken by University of Kansas Hillel program director Matt Lehrman in March, 2006.
