inside a pod at the volunteer village

This is a picture of the inside of one of the "pods," or hard-shell tents, that Hillel students stayed in while participating in one of Hillel's Alternative Spring Break programs in the spring of 2006. Presybeterian Disaster Assistance turned the grounds of the Orange Grove Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, Mississippi into a volunteer village, where 150 volunteers at a time could stay while helping rebuild nearby neighborhoods. Hundreds of students from Hillels across the country spent their spring breaks learning basic construction skills and rebuilding homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. This picture was taken by University of Vermont student Greg Murphy in March, 2006.
