Helicopters at Dawn

This is a blog entry entitled "Helicopters at Dawn" from Rabbi Stanton Zamek's blog, www.rabbizamek.blogspot.com. This entry, from September 6th, 2005, describes Rabbi Zamek?s participation in an interfaith service for the National Guard troops stationed nearby. Rabbi Zamek is the spiritual leader of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He and his community played an important role in relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina, hosting evacuees in congregants' homes, reuniting families separated by the storm, and evacuating Torah scrolls from many of the congregations in New Orleans. While Beth Shalom was on the forefront of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, their own synagogue was later damaged by Hurricane Rita. The community is still in the process of rebuilding after the damage caused by Rita.
